Many UGA Social Work Alums In Attendance At NASW-GA Conference

In my first official assignment as Director of Alumni Development, I was sincerely proud to represent the University of Georgia School of Social Work at last week's 2011 NASW-GA Annual Conference, held at Atlanta's Marriott Century Center. The annual conference, which features workshops, keynote speakers and industry-related exhibits, was attended by many of our alumni, who work in various roles within the social work community.

The conference was kicked off with a stellar presentation by our own Dr. Stephanie Swann. While I had a chance to chat with many great professionals from other great schools, including The University of Southern California, Georgia State University and Clark Atlanta University, I was most enriched and rewarded by the opportunity to meet our alumni face-to-face and to start putting faces with names. What I learned is that we have a very talented, energetic and diverse alumni base that is actively pursuing change in the field of Social Work.

In addition to talking with our alumni, I also got an opportunity to talk to dozens of Social Work professionals in attendance who are considering the UGA School of Social Work for advanced study. We received an overwhelming amount of interest in our MSW, MANPO and Ph.D programs. This can be directly attributed to the quality of our alumni and stellar faculty. I am convinced that the ongoing interest in our programs is due to the success our grads have attained as a result of hard work and preparation in their study at UGA.

I have included some photos from our time at NASW-GA. Please browse through these great shots and check back soon for photos, news and updates from the 2011 Council on Social Work Education Annual Conference, which will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, October 27-30, 2011.
