Noted social work book, "“Days in the Lives of Social Workers:  58 Professionals Tell ‘Real-Life’ Stories From Social Work Practice,” written by UGA SSW Alum Linda Grobman (MSW '82) was recently featured as a part of a clue on 'Jeopardy!'

An Update On Janeil Jarrett (MSW '82)

Janeil Jarrett came to Athens in 1969. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a native of Lenoir, NC. Her son Clark was born in 1970 and continues to live in Athens.

From 1975-1982, she was employed as a Senior Social Worker by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, where she worked on the Permanency Planning Project. She earned the MSW degree at the University of Georgia in 1982 and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Mrs. Jarrett was employed by Walton County Department of Family and Children Services from 1982-1989 as a Senior Social Work Supervisor. While there, she served as a field instructor for the UGA BSW program. She retired due to disability in 1989 and returned to Lenoir, where she has done volunteer work and has taken courses at the local community college in art, poetry writing and photography. Her photographs have appeared in the Lenoir News Topic periodically. She continues to enjoy retired life.

Nominiations for 40 Under 40 Are Now Open


The University of Georgia is proud to announce the 2012 UGA Alumni Association’s 40 Under 40, an initiative that recognizes and celebrates outstanding young alumni.

Nominations are open as of Monday, February 13th and will close on Friday, April 13th. Submissions must be submitted by someone other than the nominee. Please consider asking fellow alumni, employers or community leaders to nominate deserving alumni who are not members of the nominee's immediate family.

Candidates must be:
  • A UGA graduate (undergraduate or graduate degree) 
  • Under the age of 40 by September 1st, 2012 
  • Willing to submit photo, if selected, and have it published by the University of Georgia Alumni Association, Office of Public Affairs and various Schools and Colleges as appropriate 

The UGA Alumni Association's 40 Under 40 recognizes those who are leading the way in business, leadership, community, educational and/or philanthropic endeavors. The forty will be chosen by a selection committee based on requirements and criteria found on the nomination link below.

The UGA Alumni Association's 40 Under 40 will be notified in July 2012. Those who are selected for recognition will be invited to an awards luncheon that will take place at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta on September 20th, 2012. Nominees and honorees will be celebrated.
